Beth Allen

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 6 months ago

Beth Allen is the new Activity Director at Rendezvous Pointe. She was raised in Wyandotte, Michigan, near Detroit. Beth worked in Yellowstone Park for 5 summers and one winter; first for Hamilton Stores and later as a Ranger naturalist. She also spent time in Bozeman, MT and at Glacier Bay Lodge near Juneau, AK. Outdoor Recreation has always been of interest to her and she earned her degree in that from Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

Beth then worked at an Outdoor Education Center in Cincinnati for 3 years. She said, “It was probably one of the most rewarding jobs I ever had.”

It is where she met Jim Allen from Manlius, NY. He was a naturalist and she was his boss. They both found jobs at Teton Valley Ranch Camp in Kelly, Wy and were married there in 1988 with everyone wearing blue jeans and 109 girl campers in attendance. Beth and Jim continued to work with youth in MN, Canada, NY, SD, WY, WA and CO! They left the ‘youth scene’ and Jim guided while Beth was the backcountry cook.

Their daughter, Rachel, was born in 1995 and was home schooled through the 3rd grade. In 2005 they came to Pinedale without a job. Beth said, “God pointed us here – he was telling us where to go.” They lived in the campground for 3 months and established Lazarus Home Services doing house cleaning and handy man repairs. Beth eased out of the house cleaning and took a job at the Sublette Center. When Rendezvous Pointe needed an Activity Director she felt it was her “sweet spot” – the job that was just right for her. She feels a connection with seniors. She said “It was a hard decision to leave Sublette Center, but this is the perfect job for me. I’ve always worked with kids and we’re all kids at heart. The sky’s the limit for activities we can do here.” Beth encourages everyone to tell her what activity they’d like to have at Rendezvous Pointe – she’s ready to try anything. By Judi Myers Oct. 2007
